Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Starting Points are from Inverness we aim to be leaving at 10am sharp from our facility here in Inverness make our way North, winding our way towards John o Groats, one of the landmarks at this end of Britain before heading back to Inverness for the first night back in familiar territory. This is a relaxed day just riding and taking in the sights as we go to familiarise yourselves with the roads here in the UK and obviously with our bikes if you are hiring them.
Day 2: Starting nice and early again at 9am we make our way through the Cairngorm National Park and and enjoy the sheer beauty it offers whilst heading towards the Famous Kelpies and The Falkirk Wheel via some scenic roads. Once at the First "Attraction" you can spend some time learning about The Falkirk Wheel which is the only rotating boat lift of it's kind in the world, we also take the opportunity to grab a picture stop at the Kelpies. We will overnight not too far from here.
Day 3: Continuing making our way South via some great winding roads that seem like they were made specifically for motorcycles we pass through town such as Hawick and we soon cross the borders of Scotland and England and head on through toward the Lake District stopping around Cockermouth right at the Northernmost point of the Lakes.
Day 4: With so many roads and places to ride and visit in this area we spend some time exploring the Lakes including Lake Windermere before exiting the lower end of the Lake District and wiggling our way between the bustling built up areas around Manchester in order to get south and explore some of the Peak District to see whats on offer here also. Filled with Areas of natural beauty and great biking roads we could easily spend a couple of days here exploring the area but instead we focus on a few to keep the tour on track. We visit Buxton, Matlock and the bikers Mecca of Matlock Bath. (Here you usually see a sea of motorcycle lining the streets as people stop for great fish and chips etc.). We will stay somewhere around this area for the night.
Day 5: Today is a day off the bikes where you are welcome to take the bike away on your own and explore the area or just simply have a day off and enjoy a well deserved rest. Keep in mind there are another 10 days of biking ahead so its good to give yourself a break. The next day in the saddle is a long day but for those wishing to have a day out on the bikes we can provide a route to go and enjoy if you want to. The guide will likely be having downtime to catch up on some back office work that we have to complete whilst out on tours also.
Day 6: Rested? Great, today is a longer day as pointed out earlier, we will cover 295 miles today and it should take us around 9-9.5 hours including stops. We make our way West towards Wales. We pick up the famous Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen before traversing through Snowdonia National Park and heading South via some twisty and winding roads into The Brecon Beacons National Park. After today we wind up near Monmouth at the South end of Wales ready to continue our adventures the next day.
Day 7: After a good rest we carry on into the beautiful Somerset countryside. Stopping around Cheddar and making a trip through the jaw dropping Cheddar Gorge, its not to be missed on this two week Great British Tour! We make our way to Lands End and Lizzard point. The most Southern part of Britain. We will stop near here this evening. Day 7 and we've done both ends of Great Britain already. Great stuff but there's way more in the middle yet.
DAY 8: Heading Northwards again we make our way back northwards to pick up some alternative routing towards the City of Oxford. First stop, Stonehenge! Built some 5000 years ago and taking around 1000 years to build its worth a visit to this UNESCO world heritage site. Moving on we continue to pick up some scenic routes toward Oxford. Here we will spend the afternoon exploring the area including the famous Rad Cam and Oxford University Campus in the City Centre which offers some of the nicest buildings and architecture in the UK.
Day 9: We have a day off here so you can take a train or bus etc into London to visit the Capital of the U.K. This is worth a visit for a day if you can handle largely overcrowded places etc. Some of the best spots are Westminster (Big Ben and Houses of Parliament), Madame Tussauds in Marlebone, The London Eye and The Shard, you also have things like Picadilly Circus which is a great area to vist. This day is your own to do whatever you choose. you could even just sleep in at the Hotel and have a lazy day if you wanted.
Day 10: Refreshed after a day off the bikes? Lets get moving... Next stop Yorkshire Dales. Yorkshire is the largest county by area in the entire of the U.K. seconded by Highland (where we are based)
This means we are again spoilt for scenic areas and roads that are quiet running through endless countryside. We head directly to the City of York. York is a walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans. Its huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. The City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. The Monk Bar gate houses an exhibition tracing the life of 15th-century Plantagenet King Richard III.
Day 11: Today we wave goodbye to the stunning city of York and begin making our way through the country roads and head over to Carlisle. Today is a fairly short day so depending on the group we can either explore a little more of York before we set off OR explore Carlisle OR pick up some more of the endless country road in the area to get from A to B. There is no right or wrong answer for today, let's just see what the general concensus of the group is.
Day 12:Today we cross back over the border and into Scotland, we travel through Dumfries and Galloway toward Glasgow (Scotlands largest city) before skirting around it and picking up some scenic roads around Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park eventually making our way to the picturesque town of Oban where we will spend the night.
Day 13: Coming back up via Glencoe we start to see some of the most dramatic and captivating scenery in the entire of the U.K. We also take in the might Loch Ness and stop for a chance to find Nessie the Loch Ness monster along the way. Cameras at the ready! We will stop in Inverness this evening and tomorrow evening also.
Day 14: Saving the best til Last Lets finish off with an adventure over to some of the West coast of Scotland to see what real beauty is on a bike. With mountains galore, stunning coastal views and rugged landscapes we take in a small segment of the Best of the West as we make our way back to Inverness to finish the tour up by around 5pm today. We pass through Ullapool and head North for a short section on the North Coast 500 (We run seperate tours that encompass this entire route and the Isle of Skye also)
